"...I can o'ersway him; for he loves to hear That unicorns may be betray'd with trees,
And bears with glasses, elephants with holes, Lions with toils and men with flatterers;"
--William Shakespeare; Julius Caesar

Before Its Time

well before its time
the Unicorn's happiness emptied

into a garden that wilted petals
instead
of
blooming

inside a pond that drained
itself
instead of flooding over

what happened?
where were we

when passion turned inside out
when embrace was left to starve
into isolation

when the Last Unicorn Died
a wolf cried for a passing it
felt profoundly but yet
could not see

some hunter then killed the wolf
to silence its penetrating lament

what then, we're left to wonder
always searching within ourselves
for something we can't comprehend
only tormented in living without

long before Us
long before Time Itself

an Angel flew to Earth
and fell inside to soothe
a Weeping Demon

and so continues the cycle of
immortality

when the Last Wolf Died
a Unicorn in Heaven
remembered
and wept for its passing
